What is Paint protection film ?
Paint protection film (PPF, also called clear bra, clear film or clear paint film) is a
thermoplastic urethane often self healing film applied to painted surfaces of a new or used
car in order to protect the paint from stone chips, bug splatters, and minor abrasions. This
film is also used on airplanes, RVs, cell phones, electronics, screens, motorcycles and many
other areas. Paint protection film is OEM approved by virtually all car manufacturers.
Does paint protection film scratch?
It’s made with a durable material that will keep your device looking great for
longer. Plus, the film is easy to apply and won’t leave any residue when removed.
So, having paint protection film for your car will actually protect you from
scratches and chips when you’re driving on the road.
What are the disadvantages of paint protection film?
Paint protection film can cause damage on the car’s paint job IF it has not been
maintained properly or had been left too long on the surface. For instance, if the
film has been there for 10 years, then it will be difficult to remove it without
chipping the underlying paint.
HOW LONG DOES PAINT PROTECTION FILM LAST?
Arguably the best attribute of a paint protection film is its longevity. According to 3M, a
professionally installed paint protection film should last anywhere from 5 to 10 years.
This explains why many of these products are covered by a warranty when the
installation is conducted by a certified company specializing in PPF installations.
That said, much like car wax, ceramic coatings, or any other form of paint protection
for that matter, there are a few variables that may impact product longevity.
